Founded by artists klenemachine and umamiplant, we aim to be an space that is accessible for emerging zinemakers and help strengthen the zine scene in the local community. Since 2025 we've hosted at Liliha and McCully-Mō‘iliʻili Public Library, boasting 300+ attendees at each.
Put simply, a zine [pronounced "ZEEN"] is a self-published print or online publication. Shortened from the word "magazine", zines have historically been powerful tools for counterculture movements, activism, and marginalized groups.
Zines can come in all matters of sizes and mediums, with a range of binding and printing techniques in the mix. But the humble handmade mini zine remains the quickest and easiest way to publish and distribute an idea, requiring only one (1) sheet of printer paper and a pair of scissors.
You’ve got all the tools to start making zines at home!
Zines are rooted in the desire that art and information are meant for EVERYONE not just the select few. Zines are made for the love of creating and sharing stories and rarely make a profit. Zines exercise our freedom to write, draw, take a stand, share an idea, or geek out without any rules.
Do you feel trapped and gotta get those feelings off your chest? OKAY! Make a zine.
Are you hyperfixated on potatoes and have a burning desire to catalogue them? OKAY! Make a zine.
Wanna organize a movement and need to recruit? OKAY! Make a zine!
2026 plans coming soon!
Although our event is held at the library, we expect the noise in our event room to reach levels that those prone to overstimulation may find uncomfortable. We suggest bringing headphones, earplugs, or your own sensory-dampening tool of choice.
Yes! We highly encourage zine trading for our attendees and vendors. Trading is an essential part of zine culture which is rooted in the desire to build community and to engage in the free exchange of art and information. It's optional, but we love to see it!
Vendor applications are currently closed.
